There are nearly 2,000 homeless in Lexington, Ky on any given night. Sleepless in Lexington has made it their mission to"Unify Christians and Christian Homeless Ministries through a common project to support the homeless."
On top of the 'common project' Sleepless will also be kicking of it's Year of Service Initiative within the next few months. I am more than excited to see where this will lead, how the Lord will work, and the change that will come about in Lexington.
The Year of Service is a seven month commitment to serving the community in which you live. It is the hope of the Sleepless In Lexington committee to unify as many christian groups as possible under the banner of service. It is our hope that the people of Lexington will accept the call to serve, not only in the traditional sense, but on a much deeper level.
We encourage all participants of the Year of Service to not only serve a meal, but to sit down at the table with someone new and listen to their stories. We want to encourage people to show the Love of Christ by building relationships with people who are not like them. Put a face and a name instead of a label on the homeless population in Lexington, Ky.
The purpose of this blog is to document the stories as they are told. Everyone participating the year of service is encouraged to meet someone new, invest in their lives, and write about how these new experiences have changed, and challenged you.
